Taenaris

Taenaris butterflies are found almost exclusively in a region called Australasia, including Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea, and surrounding islands. Amid browns and creams are distinct spots that look like round owl eyes. Eyespots often serve a protective function, tricking predators into mistaking the butterflies for large animals.
