The multidisciplinary pediatric headache clinic at University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital is the first of its kind in Iowa. We care for pediatric patients whose headaches have not already responded to treatment.

Children who may benefit from our clinic are those who:

  • Have already seen a pediatric neurologist for frequent, daily, or near-daily, headaches
  • Are frequently missing school or other activities because of headaches
  • Have ongoing concerns about back or neck pain, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, or unhealthy weight

We bring together a team of pediatric specialists to create one personalized treatment plan for your child. This approach streamlines headache care to one place where your child can be seen by a pediatric neurology medical provider, a dietitian, a pharmacist, and a psychologist. Rather than communicating with each specialist separately, you communicate with one coordinated team of providers.

New patients to the clinic come for a three-hour first visit with all members of the team on one day in one location. This allows the team to discuss the best treatment plan for your child’s complex headaches before return visits are scheduled.
