How and when did you first become involved with University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital?
I first became involved with UI Stead Family Children's Hospital through Iowa State Dance Marathon. I participated as a dancer my freshman year and instantly fell in love with the organization, cause, and hospital. I was a member of the family relations committee the following year before serving as this year's executive general co-director.
Why do you choose to give your time to support UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital?
The kids. I've met the most amazing families through Dance Marathon and want to support them in any way possible.
What is one thing you wish more people knew about the children’s hospital?
UI Stead Family Children's Hospital is not your typical hospital. It is such a welcoming place and appeals to children making their time there as comfortable as possible. The connection between the hospital and University of Iowa is also very special. Through Dance Marathons across the state, the incredible hospital staff, and all of the miracle families, the kids being treated have the greatest support team.
How has Dance Marathon impacted your life?
Dance Marathon has changed my perspective on life. It has taught me what's worth the tears and how to appreciate the smallest of things. I want to do everything I can to give kids the opportunity to live a healthy childhood and chase after their biggest, wildest dreams.
